The Changing Diabetes Bus is part of Novo Nordisk's contribution to the 'Unite for Diabetes' campaign, led by the International Diabetes Federation and is fundamental to the Changing Diabetes Campaign. Part of the objective with the Novo Nordisk Changing Diabetes Bus is to encourage all South Africans to have them screened for. So we literally want to travel the breadth and width of South Africa over the next 3 years, to raise awareness and help overcome one of the world's most pressing healthcare crises.

Who qualifies to get on the bus/get their free diabetes screenings?

It is open to everybody - from those who are not sure whether they have diabetes, those who know nothing about diabetes, to healthcare professionals (doctors, nurses, etc), as well as local politicians and government officials. So if you are reading this - you are invited... please visit the bus!

What happens on the bus?

We test and screen for diabetes. Essentially the bus is kitted out to accommodate the fight against diabetes. Trained personnel aboard the bus offer visitors an opportunity to have their blood sugar and blood pressure measured as well as height, weight and waist circumference measurements. All this is done to evaluate each visitor's risk of developing, or perhaps already having, diabetes. We will then advise and refer people on to clinics, health centers and their doctors for further management. To enhance the education process we have a video, information boards, booklets and pamphlets designed to provide information and interaction for visitors of all ages.
