During November 2008 we travelled to the beautiful Mpumalanga region of South Africa to create diabetes awareness. On our road show we stopped at White River, Nelspruit, Malelane, Middelburg and Witbank. The road show was done in partnership with the Mpumalanga Department of Health.
We first stopped in White River at the White River Plaza, where we received a warm welcome from the local community. The community was very appreciative to learn more about diabetes, especially the signs and symptoms and to have their blood glucose tested. In Nelspruit we spend the day at the Nelspruit Plaza in town where people who visited the plaza had the opportunity to visit the Changing Diabetes Bus and receive more information on diabetes.
We then travelled eastwards to Malelane where we visited the Inkwazi Plaza. From Malelane we then travelled back to Middelburg and Witbank. In Middelburg we had the opportunity to visit Mhluzi Extension 6. We had a fun day with the Hola Ha Monate crew from the SABC who visited the bus to do a diabetes shoot for their next upcoming program. What a memorable experience.
Unfortunately the day in Witbank had to be cancelled due to heavy rains.
