We started the last road show of 2008 in partnership with the E Cape Department of Health. Our first stop was Queenstown and from there we visited Mthatha, East London, King William’s Town, Port Elizabeth and finished the road show in Uitenhage.
More than 290 visitors visited the Changing Diabetes Bus at our first stop in Queenstown. The next day when we arrived in Mthatha it was pouring with rain and not even the rain could stop the 282 people from visiting the bus at the Mthatha Town Hall to learn more about diabetes and to have their blood glucose tested.
The next stop on the road show was East London and we received a warm welcome from the local communities of Duncan Village and Mdantsane. From East London we travelled to King William’s Town to raise the awareness of diabetes among the local community.
In Port Elizabeth we visited the Motherwell clinic and nearly got blown away by the strong winds in the area. We finished the road show in Uitenhage with more than 120 visitors to the Changing Diabetes Bus. The day started with an education session on the importance of how to prevent diabetes, treatment options available, the complications associated with diabetes and the benefit of a healthy eating plan.
